Paul Wadsworth, Stories From the Banyan Tree

We are delighted to be working with Paul Wadsworth; a much respected and collected artist based in Cornwall in the South West of England. From his remote studio Paul has created this collection of work inspired by his travels in India. It's taken Paul 30 years to actually visit India having spent many years exploring & painting in the UAE & Oman and exhibiting in Dubai and Muscat. The time was finally right to head to India. Paul's own words explain the journey: " My first trip took me to the west coast, where for a month I spent time travelling by moped, taxis, boats and buses exploring the amazing diversity of landscape and culture. Carrying a sketchbook, acrylics and watercolours I started to to make my first impressions of India on paper. Multicoloured temples and white churches sit amongst the palm trees that run alongside the rivers that split the landscape. Everywhere I looked would be colour - the ladies saris, the decorated cow, the musician playing for money or the bustling market selling flowers. I try to find the power of storytelling in a painting, and in India it's to be found in abundance. During my time there I made many sketches and smaller location-based work. These were the beginnings and memories for the paintings. Once home I started to work on much larger canvasses with oils, and the stories began. Each painting gradually finding its own way and revealing parts of the personal journey that I intend to continue over the years to come". Paul's paintings almost leap off the canvas, they're so full of life and vitality. Scintillating with the light and changing as the light shifts these works are positive and strong and reveal the stories of the landscape and its people.
