Ian Laurie was born in 1933 and is a self taught artist who made the transition from industry to artistry around 40 years ago when he & his wife opened a gallery specialising in original, hand made prints by artists working in that medium. His own hobby of sketching soon became etching and it wasn’t long before he was producing his own limited edition etchings. Gradually his work became known to other galleries and during the 1970’s & 80’s his primary outlets were Libertys’ of London and the Medici Gallery in London, England. He opened a small gallery in the Cornish artistic community of Newlyn, England where he continued to produce scenic and figurative etchings, although in this painterly environment he also worked with brushes to produce his own versions of the Cornish landscape. Lauries work is well collected and can be seen in many leading galleries.
